Why Composition Books Typically Feature the Tape Binding

Tape binding provides a strong, simple, and cost effective solution for low volume binding needs. It requires no holes to be punched, provides a clean, professional appearance, and allows the bound document to lay flat when open.

An exercise book or composition book is a notebook that is used in schools to copy down schoolwork and notes. A student will usually have different exercise books for each separate lesson or subject.

The exercise book was also called version book historically and is called khata in India, scribbler in Canada, jotter in Scotland, and copy book in Ireland. The US equivalent is composition book, which traditionally has a distinctive cover pattern.

The exercise book is often applied in different binding ways to meet a wide range of needs, grade levels, and uses, but composition books typically feature taped binding ways, that securely hold the sheets together.

Tape binding is a document binding process that uses strips coated in thermoplastic glue that, when melted to the spine and covers of a book, creates a strong and lasting bond, or uses the book block back spine paper or gauze with cold glue gluing and pasting on the spine, some also use adhesive tapes to paste and press on the spine.

Tape-bound books can withstand up to 50 lbs of pull, giving their pages long-lasting strength and flexibility that allows for true lay-flat binding, the tape-bound books lay flat and stack neatly on a shelf.

Keeping the exercise book flat is very important, which makes it easier to expand, so they're a great option for interactive note-taking.

To secure the pages inside more firmly, the inner pages often being center-sewn or saddle-stitched before taping, the bookbinding styles that can be taped are perfect bound, saddle stitched, flat stitched, and padded, the tape also covers the binding holes and edges well.

The tape makes the book look more distinctive, unusual, and stronger.  The tape comes in different widths, shiny/dull/matte or clothes texture finish for choosing.

Spine tapes are comprised of one continuous sheet, you can print any color, text, or images on the spine of your book, the printed spine tape is customizable to show any chosen design and text.
